Luma Dot Field

The effect is installed but Final Cut or Motion can't see it

The installer said it finished. You open Final Cut Pro, search the Effects browser, and there is nothing called Luma Dot Field.

Where it lives

The effect is filed under the studio name, not the product name. Look for a Tent Studios category:

  • In Motion, under the Filters library.
  • In Final Cut Pro, in the Effects browser.

Luma Dot Field is inside that category in both hosts.

Quit the hosts, then install again

Both applications read their effect folders when they launch. If Motion or Final Cut Pro was open while the installer ran, the new effect is on disk but the running host has not looked. Quit both, open the disk image again, open Install Luma Dot Field, and click Install. Then launch the host and check the Tent Studios category.

The installer needs no administrator password, and running it twice is safe. It replaces the same plugin rather than adding a second copy, because the bundle identifiers and effect UUID do not change between versions.

Check the two folders

The installer writes only two locations, both in your user account:

  • ~/Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/Luma Dot Field.app
  • ~/Movies/Motion Templates.localized/Effects.localized/Tent Studios/Luma Dot Field/

If either is missing, the install did not complete. Run it again with both hosts closed.

Check the requirements

  • Apple Silicon. Intel Macs are not supported yet. The disk image is universal, but the Intel path has not been verified.
  • macOS 13 or later.
  • Motion 6.2 or later, or Final Cut Pro 12.2 or later. Older versions of either host will not load an FxPlug 4 effect.

If macOS blocked the installer

The download is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple, so Gatekeeper should open it normally. If macOS objects anyway, right-click the installer and choose Open.

Email support@tentstudios.com with your Mac model, macOS version, which host and version you are using, and whether the two folders above exist. A screenshot of the effect browser is usually enough; please don’t send project files unless we ask.
