- A description of what you expected vs. what happened
Quick troubleshooting
The toolbar icon isn’t showing in Safari
Open Safari → Settings → Extensions and make sure ReaderMD is enabled. You may also need to restart Safari after installing.
Extraction is empty or wrong on a specific site
Some sites use unusual layouts that defeat automatic extraction. Try this:
- Select the article text with your cursor.
- Click the ReaderMD toolbar icon.
- Your selection will be captured as formatted Markdown.
Keyboard shortcuts aren’t working
Command-C and Command-S only work while the ReaderMD popover is open and focused. Click inside the popover first, then use the shortcut.
I don’t see the Markdown I expected
Open Settings in the popover and check your frontmatter format. If you’ve set it to “None,” no YAML will appear. The filename format and download folder also live there.
Known limitations
- ReaderMD can only extract content visible in your browser. It cannot bypass paywalls or render content that requires login on another domain.
- Some single-page JavaScript apps may require a full page load before extraction works.
- Video and image-heavy sites may return an empty extraction—try selecting a specific region of text first.
Reporting bugs
The best bug reports include:
- A URL that reproduces the issue
- What you expected to happen
- What actually happened (a screenshot helps)

Feature requests
We’re a small studio building tools we want to use ourselves. Feature requests aren’t guaranteed, but we read them all and they shape the roadmap.
