Syntax Look Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 15, 2026
Syntax Look is made by Tent Studios, LLC. We collect zero data—everything happens on your device.
What we don’t collect
- No analytics or tracking of any kind
- No network requests—the app and extension work entirely offline
- No accounts or sign-in required
- No file contents are uploaded—previews render locally on your Mac
- No usage statistics are sent anywhere
How Syntax Look works
Syntax Look is a macOS Quick Look preview extension bundled with a small container app. When you press Space on a supported file in Finder, macOS asks the extension for a preview. Syntax Look reads the file on your local machine, runs it through a bundled highlight.js syntax-highlighting engine inside JavaScriptCore, and renders the highlighted output into a native NSTextView.
Everything runs on your device. No data leaves your Mac.
Permissions and sandboxing
The Quick Look extension is sandboxed by macOS—the OS grants it read-only access to a single file only at the moment you ask to preview that file. Syntax Look has no network entitlements, no background processing, and no access to the rest of your filesystem. The extension cannot reach files you did not explicitly ask to preview.
Third-party libraries
Syntax Look bundles highlight.js (BSD-3-Clause) for syntax highlighting. It runs locally in a JavaScriptCore sandbox and makes no network requests. Full attribution and license details are available in-app under About → Open Source Notices.
Children’s privacy
Syntax Look is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
